Lithuania's westernmost settlement and its prettiest resort village, sitting between the lagoon and the open Baltic on the UNESCO-listed Curonian Spit. It's genuinely worth sightseeing time (giant shifting dunes, Thomas Mann's summer house), which makes it a good multi-day scenic stay rather than just a kite stopover -- but it fills up and prices rise in summer.
