De Panne

De Panne is a compact, low-key Belgian seaside town right on the French border, best understood as a base for a North Sea wind-sports weekend rather than a destination in itself - come for the beach club party scene ('little waves, big parties'), not for a big-city night out. It suits European riders doing a spring/autumn trip within driving/train distance of home who don't need much beyond a bed, a beach club and a bike.

Getting there & getting around

transfersDe Panne has its own train station with direct connections to Brussels, Ghent and other Belgian cities; from the station take a tram (kusttram, the Belgian coast tram line) or bus to the beach. By car it's about 30km/20 minutes from Ostend via the A18/E40.
car neededNot required if arriving by train and using the coastal tram, but useful for reaching other Belgian kite towns (Nieuwpoort, Oostduinkerke, Koksijde) along the same beach in one trip

De Panne's beach is too narrow to kite well, and Oostduinkerke (~5km east) is a better nearby alternative.contested1

Itinerary idea

Combine with Nieuwpoort and Oostduinkerke as one Belgian coast trip since they share the same beach and are a short tram/drive apart.
