Canadian Hole & Kite Point

Sitting on the soundside (Pamlico Sound) of Hatteras Island between Avon and Buxton, Canadian Hole is the historic birthplace of East Coast windsurfing and, later, kiteboarding in the US - a long stretch of shallow, flat, sandy-bottom water with wide open standing depth. Kite Point, just along from it, offers deeper water favored by more advanced riders. Cape Hatteras National Seashore is exposed on a thin barrier island roughly 35 miles from the mainland, so wind here is unusually consistent almost year-round.

Station: Cape Hatteras Airport (Frisco) (Windfinder, ~16.3 km) — Nearest windfinder station with statistics is Cape Hatteras Airport at Frisco, ~16.3 km SW of Canadian Hole/Kite Point along the same barrier island (Hatteras/Rodanthe, ~5.8 km from Salvo, was used for the Salvo record instead since it's closer to that spot). Pamlico Sound wind at Canadian Hole itself, being a narrow sound-side spot, can differ from the open-terrain airport reading, especially for thermal/sea-breeze enhancement. Windfinder's current site design no longer publishes the monthly wind-probability(>=4Bft)/avg-knots table as text -- it is only rendered as an unlabeled bar chart (confirmed on Tarifa, Talat Yai and other well-known spots too, so this is a site-wide change, not a data gap for this station). Recorded here instead: annual avg wind speed/direction, monthly dominant wind direction, and monthly avg daytime air temperature, all pulled from the station's windstatistics page via a text-rendering proxy after windfinder.com rate-limited direct fetches for a time.
