Galinhos
Galinhos is a small, boat-access-only fishing village on a sand-spit peninsula in Rio Grande do Norte, reached by a short lighter crossing (no bridge or car access to the village itself). Its position on the exposed 'Costa Branca' salt-flat coast gives it wind that locals and visiting kiters describe as stronger and more consistent than Fortaleza/Ceará, with a mix of flat inner-channel water and medium ocean waves.

Wind
| best months |
|
|---|---|
| season notes | Rio Grande do Norte's coastal acceleration (funneling along the dune/salt-flat coast) makes the trade-wind season both stronger and steadier than in Ceará further west. |
| avg knots | 20-30 |
| wind name | trade winds |
| direction to shore | cross-shore to side-onshore, varies with the channel vs ocean side |
| quality | steady |
| typical kite sizes | 7-10m |
Water
| type | mixed - flat channel/lagoon side, medium waves on the ocean side |
|---|---|
| tides | Strong tidal exchange around the peninsula/estuary shifts which side is flat vs choppy |
| standing depth | yes, in the sheltered channel at low tide |
Levels
| beginner | no |
|---|---|
| intermediate | yes |
| advanced | yes |
| notes | Access logistics (boat only) and consistently strong wind make it better suited to riders already comfortable self-launching and reading tide/current. |
Launch & crowd
| description | Rigging happens on the village beach or the channel-side sandbar reached by boat from the mainland dock at Galos. |
|---|---|
| rescue | Informal only - no dedicated kite rescue boat service; village is small |
| busy months |
|
| vibe | remote, low-key fishing village feel; far fewer kiters than the Ceará circuit |
Hazards
- boat-only access (no vehicle rescue on the village side)
- strong current in the tidal channel
- sandbanks that shift with the tide
