The sandbar launch on the Columbia River at Hood River is the epicenter of Columbia Gorge kiting and, per iksurfmag, has grown from 'a tranquil fishing town' into North America's top windsports destination. It hosted the first-ever Qatar Airways GKA Kite Park League World Championships held in the US (2024) and draws the country's biggest daily concentration of kiters, spanning twin-tip, wakestyle, kite foil and wing riding, plus a dedicated slider park.
