Long Bay Beach

Long Bay is the south-shore kite beach of Providenciales - a vast, shallow, turquoise flat that runs for over a mile along the island's protected side. It is one of the most reliable and forgiving learning beaches in the Caribbean, with several kite schools operating along it and wind blowing on most days for around ten months of the year.

Station: Providenciales International Airport (Windfinder, ~6.6 km) — Station is the island's international airport, ~6.6 km from Long Bay Beach on the south shore; open, flat island terrain means this is a reasonable proxy for the trade-wind regime, though south-shore Long Bay itself may see somewhat different exposure than the airport. Windfinder's current site design no longer publishes the monthly wind-probability(>=4Bft)/avg-knots table as text -- it is only rendered as an unlabeled bar chart (confirmed on Tarifa, Talat Yai and other well-known spots too, so this is a site-wide change, not a data gap for this station). Recorded here instead: annual avg wind speed/direction, monthly dominant wind direction, and monthly avg daytime air temperature, all pulled from the station's windstatistics page via a text-rendering proxy after windfinder.com rate-limited direct fetches for a time.

Tips

Check a tide table (e.g. Windguru) and add about 45 minutes for a more accurate local tide time before planning a session
Low tide is best for practicing tricks in shallow water; higher tide gives more space and solitude
On cross-onshore days riders make the trip out to a visible shipwreck offshore - watch for the wind shadow it casts
There are no restaurants right on the main beach, so bring water and snacks
