Maafushi (Kaani Beach)
Maafushi is the Maldives' original budget-tourism local island, about 26km south of Male in South Male Atoll, with over 70 guesthouses — by far the largest guesthouse base of any inhabited island in the country. Its Kaani Beach lagoon area is used for watersports day trips rather than being a purpose-built kite center.
