Mastichari
Mastichari is Kos' main kitesurf teaching hub - a small fishing village on the north coast with a genuine local feel, home to the island's biggest kite centers and boat-supported beginner training. Northwest Meltemi and afternoon westerly thermal combine for reliable wind through most of the season.

Monthly wind statistics
Station: Kos, Greece (WeatherSpark (MERRA-2 reanalysis climate normals), ~12 km) — Station is Kos town/island-average, roughly 12 km from Mastichari on the north coast; broadly representative of the island's Meltemi-driven north wind regime. Source is WeatherSpark (NASA/MERRA-2 reanalysis-derived climate normals), used as fallback because Windfinder.com returned HTTP 429 (rate-limited) for every station tried in this session, and meteoblue was blocked by a Cloudflare challenge. WeatherSpark does not publish probability of wind >=4 Bft, so prob_ge_4bft_pct is null for all months; avg_knots is converted from its mph averages (all-hours annual-cycle average, not limited to daylight/session hours). Dominant direction is coarse: WeatherSpark reports only 1-2 seasonal wind-direction buckets per year (not a true monthly breakdown), so the per-month value here is an approximation mapped from those date-range buckets, not a distinct monthly statistic.

Tips
- choose Mastichari over Marmari when it's blowing hard NW; the venturi effect at Marmari amplifies wind further north
