Matemwe
Matemwe is a quieter beach on Zanzibar's north-east coast, more peaceful than Nungwi to the north, with deeper water and reef breaks that suit wave-riding once you're through the tide-dependent lagoon shallows. Seaweed farming is active here, so ropes and stakes are a navigation hazard at low tide. Reported wind reliability is markedly lower than the east-coast hotspots, so it functions as a secondary rather than primary destination.
