Mellieħa Bay
Mellieħa Bay (locally Ghadira) is Malta's largest sandy bay and its best-known kite spot - a shallow, sandy beach with wind that becomes genuinely reliable once the summer swimming season ends. Because the bay is a heavily used public swimming beach in summer, kiting is realistically an October-to-April activity, which also means quiet, uncrowded winter sessions on an island that is mobbed with tourists the rest of the year.

Monthly wind statistics
Station: Mellieħa, Malta (Weather Spark, ~0.8 km) — Station is Mellieħa town itself, essentially on-spot. windfinder.com/windstatistics/luqa (Malta Intl Airport, ~10 km away) returned 'Unfortunately there is no statistic data available for Malta International Airport' on fetch (JS-rendered chart not accessible to static fetch), so Weather Spark's on-site Mellieħa reanalysis climate normals were used instead. Source states wind is predominantly from the west year-round (no monthly direction breakdown given), so 'W' is applied to all 12 months rather than left null. prob_ge_4bft_pct left null (only average wind speed available from this source). Data-derived windy season (Nov-Mar, all >=12kt) matches the batch's known_best_months (Oct-Apr) closely; Oct/Apr sit just below the top-5 threshold used here but are still elevated relative to summer.

Hazards
- recreational boat traffic and anchored vessels
- shallow areas and submerged rocks toward the shoreline edges
- rocky outcrops along the northern and eastern shore
Rules
- Kitesurfing is effectively prohibited in the main swimming zone during the summer tourist season (roughly June-September) when the beach is busy
- Riders may need a special permit or membership from a local kite organisation - check current local rules and respect swimming-zone buoys before rigging
