Ngor
Ngor is Dakar's classic flat-water kite spot: a small, tight bay sheltered by Ngor Island at the west end of Yoff Bay, giving smoother water in a compact area shared with fishing boats and rocks. Steady north wind through the November-May dry season and easy access from the capital make it a long-time favorite for intermediate and experienced riders, though the confined space demands good boat and rock awareness.

Wind
| best months |
|
|---|---|
| season notes | The dry season (roughly November-May) brings the most consistent north wind; Dakar's exposed Cap-Vert Peninsula position keeps conditions windy on a majority of days year-round. |
| avg knots | 12-20 |
| wind name | N trade wind (harmattan-influenced dry-season flow) |
| direction to shore | cross/side-shore |
| quality | fairly steady but can be gusty around the point and island |
| typical kite sizes | 9-12m |
Water
| type | flat/chop |
|---|---|
| temp summer c | 27-29 |
| temp winter c | 20-23 |
| wetsuit | boardshorts most of the year; a shorty is useful during the cooler upwelling months (Jan-Mar) |
| tides | tide exposes rocks and changes the size of the rideable bay |
| currents | present around Ngor Island and the point |
| standing depth | limited - mostly a deeper-water bay |
Levels
| beginner | no |
|---|---|
| intermediate | yes |
| advanced | yes |
| notes | A tight riding area with rocks and fishing boats makes this better suited to intermediate/experienced riders who can control their kite precisely; not a beginner learning beach |

Hazards
- Rocks fringing the bay and around Ngor Island
- Fishing pirogues and boats in the water
- Small, congested riding area at busy times
- Rocks close to shore in places, worse at low tide
Rules
- Be mindful of the local fishing community's boats and gear - this is a working beach as well as a kite spot
Tips
- Ngor Island, a short pirogue ride offshore, has a well-known surf break and is worth a visit on lighter-wind days
- Head slightly north toward Yoff Beach for more open space if Ngor feels crowded
- Watch the tide - low tide exposes more rock in the bay
