Ponta Malongane
Ponta Malongane is a laid-back beach community a few kilometres north of Ponta do Ouro on Mozambique's far south coast, close to the South African border and Kosi Bay. It sits on the same long, dune-backed Indian Ocean beach as Ponta do Ouro and Ponta Mamoli, an area better known internationally for diving with dolphins and whale sharks than for kiting, giving it a wave/freeride spot with almost none of the crowds of the bigger southern-Africa destinations.

Wind
| best months |
|
|---|---|
| season notes | Southern Mozambique catches the SE trade wind belt of the Mozambique Channel; the dry winter months (roughly April-September) are the most consistent for wind, while the November-March wet/cyclone season brings more rain and squally, less reliable conditions. |
| wind name | SE trade wind |
| direction to shore | side-onshore |
| quality | steady in season, can be gusty near squalls in summer |
| typical kite sizes | 9-12m |
Water
| type | waves |
|---|---|
| temp summer c | 27 |
| temp winter c | 22 |
| wetsuit | boardshorts/rashguard Nov-Apr, shorty or 2mm useful Jun-Aug |
| tides | beach break character changes with tide; check locally |
| currents | Indian Ocean swell and rip currents possible on the open beach |
Levels

|---|---|
| intermediate | yes |
| advanced | yes |
| notes | Open ocean beach break with swell most of the year makes this better suited to intermediate/advanced riders comfortable in waves rather than first-timers. |

Monthly wind statistics
Station: Maputo (Weather Spark, ~98.5 km) — No windstatistics page with a monthly table was found for Ponta do Ouro / Ponta Malongane on Windfinder ('no statistical weather data available') or Weather Spark (no dedicated page for this specific location). Maputo (~98.5 km NW) is the nearest city with a Weather Spark climate page and is used here ONLY as a rough regional proxy - at that distance it should be treated with real caution, since this stretch of coast (near the South Africa border) is known locally for strong, steady SE trade winds in the Apr-Sep dry season that a Maputo-city average will understate. No dominant wind direction or Beaufort-probability data found for either candidate station.
