Pozo Izquierdo

The legendary strong-wind proving ground on Gran Canaria's southeast coast, in the municipality of Agüimes, and a long-running venue for the PWA windsurfing World Cup - regarded as world-class, high-wind terrain. Kiting in the original Pozo Izquierdo bay itself is now restricted (the bay is prioritized for windsurfing competition and its rocky, high-traffic layout), so most kiters now launch a short drive away at Salinas de Tenefé.

Monthly wind statistics

Station: Ingenio, Gran Canaria (model 91% weighted on Gran Canaria Airport) (Weatherspark (NASA MERRA-2 reanalysis, 1980-2016), ~11 km) — windfinder.com unreachable (429 all session). This is the world-famous windsurf/speed-kite spot; the actual on-site exposure (open Atlantic swell + accelerated alisios around the point) is stronger and more consistent than this inland-weighted reanalysis average suggests -- treat these numbers as a regional floor, not the spot's true wind strength. See known_best_months (May-Sep) in the batch input for the locally accepted season.
