On the southern coast of Ponta Delgada in the São Roque parish, this beach is generally regarded as São Miguel's safest and most established kitesurf spot, working on SW, S and SE wind. It's a sheltered, easy-access urban beach rather than a wild reef break, which is why it has become the island's default teaching and launch venue.
