Salvo Day Use Area
An NPS soundfront day-use area on Pamlico Sound just north of the tri-villages (Rodanthe, Waves, Salvo), with a large parking area and a wide stretch of shallow sound water - one of several official soundside access points that make Hatteras Island so kite-friendly.

Monthly wind statistics
Station: Hatteras / Rodanthe (Windfinder, ~5.8 km) — Station 'Hatteras / Rodanthe' is only ~5.8 km from Salvo Day Use Area, essentially the same stretch of Pamlico Sound shoreline -- a good proxy. Shorter record (2017-2026) than most other Hatteras-area stations. Windfinder's current site design no longer publishes the monthly wind-probability(>=4Bft)/avg-knots table as text -- it is only rendered as an unlabeled bar chart (confirmed on Tarifa, Talat Yai and other well-known spots too, so this is a site-wide change, not a data gap for this station). Recorded here instead: annual avg wind speed/direction, monthly dominant wind direction, and monthly avg daytime air temperature, all pulled from the station's windstatistics page via a text-rendering proxy after windfinder.com rate-limited direct fetches for a time.
