Witsand (Breede River)

Witsand sits at the mouth of the Breede River, South Africa's largest estuary, and is regarded locally as the country's premier flat-water kite spot thanks to the sheltered water behind the sand spit. It is a distinct location from the smaller Western Cape peninsula beach also informally nicknamed 'Witsand' near Misty Cliffs/Scarborough. Predominantly SE summer wind and consistently flat water draw riders from Cape Town on a roughly 3.5-hour drive, despite a resident bull shark population in the river.
